Haïti Goes Latin: Salsa, Latin Jazz and Funky Compas 1976-1984 (2 LP)
During the seventies, some bands that played Haitian compas integrated salsa and Latin jazz into their repertoire. Cuban music, which was the foundation of New York salsa, itself was based on rhythms from Haiti at the end of 18th century. `Haiti Goes Latin` presents a selection of these songs. Two pieces of compas, with funky inflections and a troubadour piece, complete the selection. This sensual and elegant music, with its lush instrumental sections, was recorded in New York, Miami and in Haiti`s famous Audiotek studio. The selection covers a period spanning 1976 to 1984.
