Pascualito Cabrejas y su Tumbao Habana - De Cuba Soy
It`s been more than 5 years since Tumbao`s last release. Many thought it was over for the group, after the departure of Emilio Frías "El Niño". The band has regrouped as if nothing ever happened.
If you are looking for hard hitting Timba tunes with infectious coros, look no further. "Como les gusta la Habana", "Hay suegras" and "Te pasaste de hora" are three examples of how hard this band swings. You will need your asthma pump after those cuts. A little slower, but just as strong is "Pretexto para una fiesta". The song is about making any excuse to throw a party and party is what they do. Here the conguero and the trombonist (no info on musicians or singers - welcome to the digital age) make this bad boy swing.
But not everything is Timba. The band steps out the box, for a few numbers. "Sueño erótico" is a straight up Bachata with lyrics that would make Anthony Santos blush. While at first listen you may think "Pa` las lindas y las feas" is a straight up merengue, in reality it`s more of an homage to Haiti`s musical influence in Cuba. The title track is a smoking modern son with each band member taking a solo. Very nice! (review by Salsapower)
