Fiery Cuban pop-timba-salsa dance material by one of the most exciting and respected bands on the island. Director and singer Ricardo Leyva is in top form here, infusing a pan-Caribbean feel to this club-ready batch of tracks. Not your typical timba fare - Sur Caribe is interested in pushing boundaries both musically and lyrically. So, you can have a lush pop-rock-jazz track followed, naturally, by a pilon-timba. Very funky, and it works. Comes with an 8 song DVD that doesn`t simply repeat the cd tracks, as so many cd-dvd sets do these days. Now that`s cool. Check out the audio clips -- I`m listening to "Todo Por El Son" right now and, damn, it`s good. Lots of guests like Juan Formell, Omara Portuondo, Elmer Ferrer and Frank Fernandez. One of the most interesting Cuban titles of the year.
