Latin music icon and legendary Fania impresario/bandleader Johnny Pacheco is back with a new release Entre Amigos, on the Bronco Records label. With a stellar cast of guests (Bobby Valentin, Papo Lucca, Arturo Sandoval, Roberto Roena, Dave Valentin, Nelson Gonzalez and Ricky Gonzalez), producer/musical director Johnny Pacheco unveils a repertoire of mostly original compositions, with arrangements by Bobby Valentin, Papo Lucca and Ricky Gonzalez. Recorded in New York City (with the exception of the track Celia ... Reina Soberana, which was recorded in Puerto Rico and includes the vocal talents of Ismael Miranda, José Alberto "El Canario" and Tito Rojas), the CD features lead singers Héctor Casanova and Ray Viera, as well as backup vocals by Johnny Pacheco, Darvel Garcia, Jelena and Shae. The repertoire of mostly old school inspired sones, montunos and guarachas is somewhat reminiscent of Pacheco`s earlier works. Highlights include the tribute composition to the late Celia Cruz, Celia ... Reina Soberana, the New York style mambo/cha El Exigente (with vocals by Pacheco and an electric guitar solo by John Garcia), the selection Busca Tu Puesto (a vocal descarga featuring all the singers of the production, plus a few others, such as Cheo Feliciano, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Herman Olivera, Michael Stewart and Adalberto Santiago), and the merengue La CirugÃa (with guest vocals by Johnny Ventura).
