San Lazaro is een achtkoppige band uit Melbourne met een ledenbestand dat zowel uit Chilenen, Colombianen als Catalanen bestaat. Met La Despedida ("het afscheid") leveren ze een dijk van een album af waarop invloeden van salsagrootheden als Hector Lavoe of Ruben Blades duidelijk hoorbaar zijn. San Lazaro mag dan vooral bekendstaan als een uitstekende salsa dura band, op La Despedida zijn net zo goed invloeden uit genres als chicha/cumbia (La Ola), Latin jazz/Afro Cubaanse rumba (Descarga Soledad) of nueva cancion Chilena (afsluiter Ladridos De Perros) te horen.
