Vocalist Luisito Carrión, with help from the likes of the respected timbalero Diego Galé and his crew of Colombian salseros, has cooked up just that a nice little burner of an album with crisp arrangements and lots of playful, up tempo numbers. There is nothing ambitious or left field, not too much variation from song to song, and the brass is not going to win any awards for innovation, but it is nice to have a solid salsa album these days that is not drenched in syrup or pretentious over-production. Carrión is a seasoned vocalist, having cut solo albums that date back more than a decade, and he is in demand as a coro singer for the likes of Guayacán Orquesta and Yuri Buenaventura. His singing style reminds me a bit of Pete "El Conde" Rodriguez, which is a good thing.
